this is pretty simple....just substitue the value they give u for each letter into your equation and this becomes a very simple equation!

REMEMBER: when a number and letter are next to each other without any sign..it simply means you have to multiply them together! (ppl just got lazy when creating this rule!)

1) 2x - 3y

(put the "4" in place of the "x"
and the "-2" in place of the "y")

2 x 4 - 3 x -2 = 14

2) 2x+3

(put the "1/5" in place of the "x")

2 x 1/5 + 3 = 3.4 (or as a fraction....3 2/5 )

3) 3ab

(put the "1/4" in place of the "a"
put the "2" in place of the "b")

3 x 1/4 x 2 = 1.5 (or as a fraction...1 1/2)

4) 2(a+3)

(put the "5" in place of the "a")

2 (5 + 3) = 2 (8)

***now multiply EVERYTHING inside the brackets with the number outside...which is "2"***

2 x 8 = 16

then multiply 2x4 and 3x-2
8- -6
two minuses makes a positive,
so 8+6

substitute, 2(1/5)+3
2x(1/5) = .6
then, .6 + 3

substitute, 3(1/4)(2)
3x.25 is .75, .75x2 is 1.5

substitute (i hope your getting all this) 2(5+3)
do parenthathies first, 5+3=8
then, solve (2x8)

1) 8 + 6 = 14

2) 2/5 + 3 = 3 2/5

3) (3/4) (2) = 3/2 = 1½

4) 2 x 8 = 16
