I know naturally the answer to this question would be sleep as much as you can. But I can tell you from past experience sleeping for just a few hours makes it very difficult for me to function properly when I wake up. My body still wants to be in a warm bed sleeping for several more hours. So my question is if you are put in a situation where you can either stay up all night or get just a few hours sleep. What would be the better choice and why? Personally I can say staying up all night at the very least makes it easier for me to get going.
defently a few hours of sleep, just like a nap. i pulled all nighters and its not cool when i end up falling asleep in school and plus its hard to concentrate later. trust me its not pretty.
It doesn't matter what is best for me. You have to do what is best for your body. Eventually, lack of sleep will catch up to you in irritability, high blood pressure, lack of attention, no energy, and it can even cause weight gain.
People who chronically are deprived of sleep are more prone to developing a mental illness. My advice to you would to plan your activities around your sleep. Get the right amount of sleep and exercise your body needs.

Sleep is an interesting thing, because scienctists can't figure out what it is good for. Studies have shown only that a lack of sleep doesn't seem to affect people in any way, aside from wanting to sleep. However, I can offer better info! Studies also found that if you dont get enough REM sleep one night, you will have REM sleep longer the next night.
It is hard to wake up out of REM!
So, sleeping for short periods of time may be good for getting up in the short term, but after a few days, your body will catch up with you,and it will get harder and harder until you replenish your bodies REM needs!
I used to wake up early to review for a test, but if it's a project i'd stay up late, because I don't wanna be strained for time. I have a problem with real zero's answer because even a little bit of sleep is helpful for attentiveness and non drowsiness.
I do the same thing - I usually sleep for the few hours, and then catch naps throught out the day (i.e. history) but if you NEED to get up in the morning, I'd say an all nighter, because once you're asleep - and you're happy to be asleep - it'll be hard to drag your bum out of bed.
