What happens when you switch to a higher V mode

It can not be operate normally,it is because there are not enough voltage supply to the appliance.By P=V^2/R,R is a constant,if V is smaller to 110V,the power will be smaller too.For example,a light bulb is using a 220V mode but the supply is only 110V,the brightness of the bulb will be lower.
