Factors means you can divide something out of it. For instance 16 has the factors 2, 4, and 8 since they all divide out of 16 without leaving a remainder.

For 6X-6 it's whatever you can divide out of it. Since (X-1)(6) = 6X-6 both X-1 and 6 are factors of 6X-6. Other factors include 3X-3 and 2.

6x - 6 = 6(x - 1)

6
So,
so divide it all by 6
So,
6(x-1)

6x - 6
= 1(6x - 6)
= 2(3x - 3)
= 3(2x - 2)
= 6(x - 1)

∴ the factors of 6x - 6 are 1, 2, 3 and 6.

This is the distributive property:

a(b + c) = ab + ac

and it works in reverse too.
i.e.
ab + ac = a(b + c)

So in your problem:

6x - 6 = 6 (x - 1)

Think about this, knowing that multiplication is repeated addition:

6(x - 1)

= (x - 1) + (x - 1) + (x - 1) + (x - 1) + (x - 1) + (x - 1)
= x - 1 + x - 1 + x - 1 + x - 1 + x - 1 + x - 1
= x + x + x + x + x + x - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1 - 1
= 6x - 6

a factor is the numbers you multiple to get that number. so the factors of 6 are 1&6, and 2&3. so the factors of -6 are 1&6, -1&6, 1&-6, 2&3, -2&3, and 2&-3. hope this helps!

The factor to use here is 6.
If you divde 6x by 6 you get x, and if you divide -6 by 6 you get -1.

So you would get 6(x-1) as your factorised answer.

Your problem is an example of a monomial factor.

Given 6x - 6, 6 is distributed at the expression, so

6x - 6 = 6 (x -1)
