Mass of electron, m = 9.11 X 10-31 kg

Magnitude of charge of electron, q = 1.6 X 10-19 C

1. In the uniform electric field,

By F = qE

F = (1.6 X 10-19)(4 X 103)

Magnitude of force, F = 6.4 X 10-16 N

2. Assume Newtonian mechanics is valid,

By Newton's 2nd law of motion,

F = ma

6.4 X 10-16 = 9.11 X 10-31 a

Acceleration, a = 7.03 X 1014 ms-2

By v = u + at

106 = 0 + (7.03 X 1014)t

Time required, t = 1.42 X 10-9 s
