Let Kitty has K cherries, Betty has B cherries

B=K+6
(K-12) = 2/3* (B-12) = 2B/3-8 or K=2B/3 +4

Therefore B = 2B/3 + 4 +6 = 2B/3 +10
1/3B=10 or B=30
K=24

a) Kitty has 24 cherries; Betty has 30 cherries
b) Kitty has 12 cherries; Betty has 18 cherries now
c)
18-y=2*(12-y)=24-2y
y=6

a=24

b)(24-12)+(24+6-12)
=30

c)a-12-y=(a+6-12-y)/2
24-12-y=(24+6-12-y)/2

Let Kitty has X cherries, then Betty has X+6 cherries.

After they both eat 12 cherries, Kitty has X-12 and Betty has X -6

X-12 = 2/3 ( X-6)
3X-36 = 2X -12
X= 24

a) Kitty has 24 and Betty has 30 originally.
b) Kitty has 12 and Betty has 18 now.

c) 2 ( 12-y) = 18 -y
24 -2y = 18 -y
y = 6
