Since the sun causes all this bad stuff like cancer shouldn't we block it from the earth or something?

I once coined the phrase, "Research causes cancer in lab rats."

It was somewhat of a joke, because it seemed like in the 1990's EVERYTHING was linked to cancer, based on studies. But rodents are highly susceptible to cancer. And often times, in those studies, the experimental group would be subjected to high amounts of the *whatever* ...suggesting that moderation might be safe, but excess paves the way for tumors.

Either way, a carcinogen sun is more preferable to me than none at all. The food chain literally begins at the sun.

Only if you think killing every living thing on the planet is somehow better than cancer...

Its not all bad. Infact, the goodness of the sun heavily outweighs its bad effects. If the sun werent there, we would die.

Its like saying we should stop eating, incase we choke or get food poisoning.

Everything on earth needs the sun's light to live, including you and me.

For one, the bottom of the food chain, plants and photoplankton depends on the sun's light to perform photosynthesis. Without the sun, they will all die and cause a chain reaction in the food chain above where all the carnivores will die, including humans; this is how most of the living things died of 65 million yrs ago when a meteor hit the Earth.

Second, the sun is actually what keeps the Earth at a warm temperature. Without it, Earth is freeze over and the atmosphere will actually turn solid and fall onto the ground like snow. This is because Earth would be almost the same temperature as universe 3 Kelvins above absolute zero. Making Earth inhabitable above ground.

Third, much of our ozone protects us from most of the harmful radiations and our magnetic field protects us from the solar winds the sun produces, and this is generally adequate. Skin cancer generally occurs only if you expose yourself over a prolong period to the sun; because some of the Ultraviolet light gets past of the atmosphere, overdosage of UV lights destroys DNA in our skin cells, making them cancerous.

yeah, we build a massive sphere around the circumference of the sun, and everything on the earth dies. Does that sound like a good idea?????

the problem lies with the space between man and the sun.
