A lot of these bright red words are what we call phrasal verbs : phrases that composed of a verb+preposition. They make a special meaning when combined together.
e.g. The candle burned =/= The candle burnt out.
The candle burned means that the candle was burning, it doesn't indicate whether the candle stopped burning. But "burnt out" means that the candle stopped burning after a while of burning.
e.g. drop =/= drop off. Drop is just the simple action of dropping something, whilst drop off describes someone sending a package/item at a destined place.
Phrasal verbs can't really be "learnt". You either come across them familiarly enough, or you memorize them. you can find some books in bookstore with a list of phrasal verbs.
The words in black indicate time
e.g. I ate my dinner while watching TV. While indicates the time the subject was eating dinner - while watching TV.
e.g. I eat whenever I'm hungry. When does she eat? When she feels hungry.
E.G. The candle burns out whenever there isn't enough heat.
When does the candle stop burning? Whenever there isn't enough heat. In the same sentence, whenever also serves as a condition.
