Maths question -------->f(x)=x²+3x+2?

Find f(x+h)

(please explain thanks!)

this is the answer (x²+3x+2)+(2xh + h²+3h) (though I do not know why it is)

f(x) = x^2 + 3x + 2

f(x) → f(x + h)

f(x) = x^2 + 3x + 2
f(x + h) = (x + h)^2 + 3(x + h) + 2
f(x + h) = (x + h)(x + h) + 3*x + 3*h + 2
f(x + h) = x^2 + hx + xh + h^2 + 3x + 3h + 2
f(x + h) = x^2 + 2hx + h^2 + 3x + 3h + 2
f(x + h) = x^2 + 3x + 2hx + h^2 + 3h + 2

(x + h)² + 3(x + h) + 2
x² + 2hx + h² + 3x + 3h + 2

F(x) = x^2 +3x +2
F(x) = (x +1)(x+2) ---- factorising
F(x+h) = ((X+H) +1)((X+H) +2) ---- replacing all x's with X+H's

f(x+h) = (x^2+Xh + 2x +hX + H^2 +2H +X + H + 2) --- multiplying out the quadratic

= X^2 + 2XH +3x + H^2 + 3 H + 2
= x(x +2H +3) +(H^2 + 3H +2)

Hence

f(x + h) = (x + h)^2 + 3(x + h) + 2

= x^2 + 2hx + h^2 + 3x + 3h + 2

= x^2 + (2h + 3)x + h^2 + 3h + 2.

Don't know where the first answer came from, aceish - what is 3x - 1? what is g(x)??

Just substitute x+h where you have x in f(x)

f(x+h)=(x+h)²+3(x+h)+2

F(x)=3x-1

Then, F{G(X)}=3[G(X)]-1=x² - 5x

=>3[G(X)]=x² - 5x+1

=>G(X)=1/3(x² - 5x+1)

thats the best i can do and im guessing thats the answer hope i was a help
