-3x < x+1

-4x < 1 subtracting x on other side
-x < 1/4 dividing by 4 on other side
x > -1/4 when we multiply by -1 both sides the inequality sign changes

-4x < 1; -x <1/4

x > - 1/4

-3x < x + 1
-3x - x < x - x + 1
-4x < 1
-4x/-4 < 1/-4
x > -1/4

When you divide or multiply an by a negative the inequality sign switches.

-3x<x+1=>
4x>-1=>
x>-1/4

-3x < x + 1
-3x - x < 1
-4x < 1
x > 1/-4
x > -1/4 (-0.25)

-3x < x+1

implying that

-1 < 4x

therefore

-0.25 < x

so x > -0.25
