Xanax does make you sleepy, especially if you're taking it 3x a day. Lexapro is what I'm on right now as an anti-depressant. I've been happy so far with it. Ask your doctor about taking Xanax just once a day. Usually it's prescribed as needed. So, when you start to feel stressed or know you're going to be in a stressful situation, take one. Not just 3x a day, tolerance grows quickly with Xanax, so it won't work soon, or you will have to increase dosage if you're taking it 3x every day.

Lexapro (5 mg to 20 mg maximum) is an excellent antidepressant. Start with 5 mg and gradually increase to 10 mg if necessary only ONCE a day, usually in the morning. Most can stop there although some people need only 5 mg a day and some 15 mg a day.

Xanax is an antianxiety medication. It is probably the Xanax that is making you sleepy and dizzy. Usually as your body adapts, these symptoms will go away. Maybe to start with you should take 0.25 mg three times a day maybe 0.25 mg in the morning and then 0.50 mg.after dinner. Check this out with your doctor. He/she is the only one who can manage your medication.

get off xanax as soon as possible it is highly addictive and almost like heroin to get off of....i was on the combination of them at one time ...then the miracle drug cymbalta came along and eliminated both and is non narcotic and help with the aches and pains of stress/depression

Yes- xanax is a depressant and as long as you take it you will be in a drug induced stupor. A neurologist shouldn't be prescribing psychiatric meds, only a psychiatrist is qualified to prescribe these medications.
