The ultrasound transducer inside the camera emits a series of acoustic pulses towards the object. The pulses bounce back and received by the same transducer (or another one) The time period of sound traveled was measured between the emit time and the received time by the microprocessor unit inside the camera, which in turn calculates the distance.
