get the multiplicative inverse of 12^-2

which is 1/(12^2) whenever using multiplicative inverse, negative exponent will turn positive and positive exponent will turn negative

now solve 12*12=144

noy having the answer 144, put it below the 1 like this: 1/144

that will be your fraction and your answer

Negative powers can be thought of as fractions quite easily:

Make the power positive, and place underneath 1 in a fraction.

So, 12^-2 becomes:

1
------
12^2

Which, when written simpler is just:

1
----
144

Any value that is raised to a negative power means that you take the reciprocal of the base, and then raise that to the same positive power.

In other words, 12 becomes 1/12 and then you raise (1/12) ^ 2

The answer is 1/144

12^(-2)
= 1/(12^2)
= 1/(12 x 12)
= 1/144

Whenever you have a negative exponent, it means division instead of multiplication, so 12^-2 is just 1/12^2.
