=12x3-2p
=36-2p

After 4 years,Paul and John's total age
=12+36-2p
=48-2p

Paul's age= 3x12-2p=36-2p

After 4 years
John's age=12+4=16
Paul's age=36-2p+4=40-2p

Total ages=16+40-2p=56-2p
