Is dressing up dogs stupid? ?

For small, short-haired dogs, I think it's a good idea to get them a coat or at least some sort of covering if you take them out in colder weather. A friend of mine has a dobermann who shivers outside in the frigid winter here, so she bought her a nice little coat to keep her warm. Looks ridiculous, but some dogs could use the extra warmth.

Dressing them up just for the sake of dressing them up is another story. I guess whatever floats your boat with that. My dogs have thick coats and are bred to swim in icy water and also have oily coats to protect them from water-they have no need to wear any clothing no matter what the weather is, and I find it silly to just..well...dress them up for the heck of it. The only time I ever dressed my dog up was when we had a football party here at my house for the Cleveland Browns-I put my old Browns Jersey on him =]

Honestly, in the rain, is the only time I'd agree w/ putting anything on a dog. I like the little booties/paw covers they have for them b/c there paws DO get cold and wet. However, all other clothing on dogs, aside from doggy raincoats/similar on walks to protect from the rain, are ridiculous and cruel.

Some dogs NEED coats and sweaters to keep warm in colder months (hairless breeds) - and a rain coat for any dog isn't necessarily stupid. However dressing your dog up for no reason.. now that is not only ridiculous but depending on the style of clothing it can be uncomfortable, hot, and restrictive.

My dog has a cold weather jacket, a rain jacket, and some holiday stuff. All practical stuff, nothing fancy (thought the cold weather jacket has paw prints on it...)

I think it is stupid to dress up dogs in clothes for fun. They don't even like it very much because it makes them itchy. I had a friend who put a sweater on her chihuahua, and her dog hates it. He didn't move too well in it and he kept sratching it.

I don't think it is stupid when someone has a dog who doesn't have a thick fur, need to dress up to keep them warm in the winter. I have a miniature pinscher who is pretty senstive to cold and doesn't like to stay outside in the cold too long. I got him a coat and boots, but he doesn't wear them in the summer, fall, or spring. He wears it in the winter only when we are going outside, never wear it indoor.

There are a lot worse things that you could do than to put a coat on your dog.

My dog has no fur and no fat, so she gets sweaters and coats pretty much from October until June.

Friends use coats to make clean up easier after hikes and rainy walks.

No its not stupid at all. It is for a good reason.
I bought a coat for my pit bull because he used to freeze when he would go outside to go potty. Now he is nice and warm!

I personaly wouldnt dress my dogs up but thats just me doesnt mean everyone else has to have the same view on it as me.

Clothing should not be put on dogs to be "cute" or "fashionable."

The only case where I say a dog should wear a jacket, is it is freezing outside, and your dog has short hair. Other than that, clothes should not be on a dog.

Personally I wouldn't put clothes on my dog. I think it is a little stupid. There is a difference between people and dogs lol. But.... you shouldn't care what other people think. Do whatever you truly believe is best
