樓上朋友講的 set top box 只是一個泛稱，其功能可以無限的延伸成多種應用產品，包括單純僅有上網功能的STB、用在隨選視訊（Video On Demand）應用上的STB、用在視訊會議上的STB、衛星接收用的STB，以及未來數位電視接收節目用的STB等等不同功能及應用的產品。
所以接收數碼訊號的解碼器的，英文應正確叫 做 High Definition Receiver。
