西班牙人的民族血統和性格
西班牙不像北美洲的美國，也不像中歐的瑞士那樣是民族獨特或多民族構成的國家。西班牙民族比較單一，是一個由佔人口比例多數的主體民族和若干個少數民族共同構成的國家。總的來說，西班牙大致可分為四個民族，其中最大的民族要算是卡斯蒂利亞人了，他們大約佔全國總人口的80%以上；其次是加泰羅尼亞人，佔總人口10%左右；再其次是巴斯克人，約佔總人口5%；最後是加利西亞人，約佔總人口的3%。此外，還有瓦倫西亞人、安達魯西亞人、吉卜賽人等，但他們大多早已同其他民族同代，至今已不算單獨的民族了。目前，在西班牙境內還生活著少量吉卜賽人(約不到一萬人)，由於人數少，在西班牙社會並未形成較有影響的種族群體。

那些稱之為少數民族的加泰羅尼亞人、巴斯克人和加利西亞人，本質上同卡斯蒂利亞人沒有甚麼大的區別，無論是他們的思維方式，還是生活習慣，基本上大同小異。如果他們生活在一起，外人很難辨別其屬性。所不同的只是他們的語言和文化。這些民族的語言和文化之所以存在差別，其主要原因是在歷史上西班牙有許多獨立的封建王朝，盡管後來這些王朝被統一了，但各自所形成的文化都被完整地保存下來。

現代意義上的西班牙人，是由利古里亞人、伊比利亞人、克爾特人、日耳曼人等結合而成。盡管其祖先已無法考証，但有一點是可以肯定的，那就是在幾千年的漫長歲月中，各民族同外來的羅馬人、西哥特人、尤其是摩爾人進行了融合和同化。所以可以說，今天西班牙人的身體裡在某種程度上流淌著阿拉伯人的血液。因此，許多西班牙人的形體和外貌不完全如歐洲人那樣人高馬大、金頭髮、藍眼睛，反而同阿拉伯人酷似；身體中等，皮膚白晰，頭發烏黑，高鼻梁，長睫毛，大眼睛，生性活潑，樂觀大方。

西班牙人的性格是典型的南歐人的性格，熱情奔放，樂觀向上，無拘無束，講求實際，與英國人的矜持，德國人的古板，美國人的好動，日本人的認真有較大差別。西班牙人常常生活在詩情夢裡，浪漫幽默；也常常生活在童話裡花環下，無優無慮。當然，他們也有發愁和發脾氣的時候，但那只是短暫的，一會兒就會雨過天晴。

西班牙人性格的第三個特點是自強自立。他們做甚麼事總喜歡自己親自去做，不大願意求人、依賴人。即使做不好，或力不從心，也決意要去嘗試，哪怕失敗了也不懊喪。他們認為投入了，努力了就是收獲。尤其是對那些富於挑戰和刺激的事，他們更有一種冒險和勇往直前的勇氣。無論是家教，還是社教，都鼓勵這種壓倒一切困難，自強不息的民族精神。
