✔ 最佳答案
1) Yesterday six (people) were hurt, but no (life) were lost in the car accident.
(people – people is uncountable so no “s” should be added even if there are six)
(life – because of “no”, that means it is not plural so we need not change to “lives”)
2) These (child) have some (watch)
(children – these = plural)
(watches – some = plural)
3) It is said that two ( Germany ) and three (Japanese) are going to visit our school next week.
(Germans – people from Germany are called German, and it is countable so we use “Germans” because of two)
(Japanese – because Japanese can be used as singular or plural, so we do not change even though there are three Japanese)
4) It is not far from the post office to our school. It is only five (minute) walk.
(minutes’ – five minutes = plural, minutes’ = possessive noun)
5) Would you like some more (chicken) ? It is really delicious.
(chicken – in this sentence chicken is a dish of food which is uncountable)
6) On Sundays I often go to my (uncle) to play computer games.
(uncle’s – possessive noun)
7) We always send some flowers to our teachers on (teacher) Day.
(Teacher – a formal name for a festival has to start with Capital letter)
8)I'd like to buy a pair of (sport) shoes this afternoon.
(sport – “a pair of” is referring to “shoes”, so “sport” is an adjective here).
9) There are twenty (woman) teachers in that school.
(woman – “twenty” is referring to “teachers”, while “woman” is an adjective.)

people 是 person 的眾數寫法, 不必再加 s, 除非, 你的意思是指 "民族", 而不是一般意思的人, 才要加 s. 請查考較高階的字典了解更多.

對不起, 001 的答案整體應比較好的. 今次投錯了.

剛查過一本 grammar 書, 關於 "複合名詞", 有以下說明:

如果是以加 man 或 woman 作字首的複合名詞, 則兩部份都變成複數形式: men students, women students. A Practical English Grammar, A. J. Thomson, Oxford, p.11 [中譯版]

希望大家可在圖書館多翻查其他 grammar 書, 看是否也有相同的結論? (及請列出書名)

1) Yesterday six (people) were hurt, but no (life) were lost in the car accident.

Can you spot the mistakes in the above sentence?
Yesterday six (people) were hurt, but no (Xlife does not go with were)- lives- were lost in the car accident.

2008-11-03 14:27:13 補充:
To say: 'because of “no”, that means it is not plural so we need not change to “lives”' is a very serious mistakes.
Counter-examples:
There are no clouds in the sky.
Under no circumstances should you be rude in the discussion.

We can say sports shoes just like we say sports car, sports editior, sports section etc. Sport can be an adjective, so can sports.

2008-11-03 14:35:56 補充:
For the same reason, the word woman can be an adjective, so can women.
Sometimes, there can be more than one acceptible answer. That's OK.
To KEN: I think the same as you to prefer 001's answer to the other ones. In fact, I think that there is no mistakes in it.

2008-11-03 14:47:29 補充:
Ken, don't worry. As long as the readers know what is right and what is wrong in English, it does not matter if you voted for a wrong answer by mistake.
Be happy!

2008-11-09 05:15:31 補充:
It is intereting to learn the specific plural form of woman teacher to be women teachers. This is an exception from the general rule for the plural forms of compound nouns.
