Mutual funds report performance results at the
end of each quarter (3 months) and at the end
of the year (12 months). They will report the
value of their investments as of that day. So,
of course, the up and down of the stock market
will affect the value of the mutual funds.

In most cases, mutual funds cannot be worth less
than 0. Therefore, no need to break up.
However, if the fund shorts the maret (betting
the market to go down), or if the fund borrows
money to investment. It is possible that the
fund worth less than $0, and will need to close.
