affirmative statement : ( positive)
1) I go to a restaurant every Sunday.
2) John often eats spicy food.
3) I was happy last Sunday. ( " last Sunday" = past tense here)
negative statement: ( The opposite of the above sentences.)

2) John never eats spicy food./ John doesn't eat spicy food. ( both are correct.)
