I can't figure out how to factorize this equation. Can you help?

Note: y2 = y sqaured

X = (2 y2 – (y2 + y)) / 2

(X = 2 times y sqaured - (y sqaured plus y) all divided by 2)

It would be a good idea to simplify the equation first.
x = (2y^2 -(y^2+y)) /2
x = (2y^2 -y^2 -y)) /2
x = (y^2- y) /2
x = y (y-1) /2

X = (2 y^2 – (y^2 + y)) / 2
Or X = (2 y2 – y2 - y) / 2
Or X = (y2 - y) / 2
Or X = y(y-1)/2

Is this what you wanted?

X = (2 y^2 – (y^2 + y)) / 2
X = (2 y^2 – y^2 - y) / 2
X = (y^2 - y) / 2
X = y(y - 1) / 2
...end

X = 2y^2 - (y^2 + y)/2

x = y^2 - y/2

x = y(y-1)/2

i imagine that there should be a mistake in the question in case your meant to factorise it, there is no way of factorising it in the for (x+a)(x+b), the reply for the question comes out as X = a million+a million.414i or a million-a million.414i so till your daughter is doing complicated numbers then the question is incorrect. desire that permits :)

x = [2y^2 - (y^2 + y)]/2
x = [2y^2 - y^2 - y]/2
x = [y^2 - y]/2
x = y[y - 1]/2
