The answer is A.

Relative molar mass of C = 12 g mol-1

Relative molar mass of H = 1 g mol-1

Relative molar mass of O = 16 g mol-1

Relative molar mass of CO2 = 12 + 16x2 = 44 g mol-1

Mole fraction of C in CO2 = 12/44

In 3.2 g of hydrocarbon P:

Mass of C = 8.8 x (12/44) = 2.4 g

Mass of H = 3.2 - 2.4 = 0.8 g

Mole ratio C : H

= 2.4/12 : 0.8/1

= 0.2 : 0.8

= 1 : 4

Hence, the simplest formula of P is CH4.
