here is what you get, you have a number, call it N, and the next number then is N+1. When you add them together, you get 63. Hence:
N + (N+1) = 63
N + N + 1 = 63
2N + 1 = 63
2N = 62
N = 31
All of the answers so far are basically the same method. I have different method. Try this:
divide 63 by 2 and you get 31.5
The nearest whole number lower than 31.5 is 31
The nearest whole number higher that 31.5 is 32
The two numbers are 31 and 32
Check by adding them
31 + 32 = 63
Here 'number' means an integer.Let x & x+1 be two such numbers such that
x+(x+1)=63
2x+1=63
2x=63-1
2x=62
x=31
Therefore the two required numbers are 31 & 32.
Wow, that really is a tough one. I'll put all the facts into my computer and see what it comes up with.
If I don't get back to you within two weeks then you'll have to accept the answers 31 and 32
