Let x and y be the number of $5-coins and $2-coins respectively.

x+y = 10--------------(1)

5x+2y = 32------------(2)

From(1),

x+y = 10

x = 10-y ---------------(3)

Substitute (3) into (2) ,

5(10-y)+2y = 32

50-5y+2y = 32

3y = 18

y = 6

From (3),

x = 10-(6) = 4

Therefore , David have four $5-coins and six $2-coins.
