3x + y = 7
y = 7 - 3x

Since the goal is to isolate y, there is only one step necessary.

Subtract 3x from both sides:
3x - 3x + y = 7 - 3x

The 3x's cancel on the left and leaves you with:
y = 7 - 3x <= ANSWER

Hope this helps! ;)

y = - 3x + 7

ok, here goes
3x + y = 7
y = 7 - 3x
if u want the value of y, ul need 2 av the value of x

Y = 7 - 3x
and
X = 7/3 - y/3

3x +y = 7
3x = 7 -y
3x -7 = -y

-3x +7 = y

You can't solve for y with just this equation since you have two variables, x and y.

Unless you mean

y = 7 - 3x

y = -3x + 7

which is the equation of a straight line where -3 is the gradient (slopes down from left to right) and the intercept with the y axis is 7 (that is when x = 0)

transpose the 3x to the other side:

y = 7-3x
2008-10-23 10:12 pm
3x + y = 7
=> 3x - 3x + y = 7 - 3x
=> (3x-3x) + y = 7 - 3x
=> 0 + y = 7 - 3x
=> y = 7 - 3x
