Hi,
" a lot of " = " lots of"
You may use them to talk about countable nouns or uncountable ones.
Do not forget to use plural forms when you talk about countable nouns.
Examples:
1) I have a lot of friendS. ( " friend" is a countable noun. I added an s here)
I have a lot of friends. = I have lots of friends.
2) I have a lot of water at home. (" water" is not countable here. You do not have to change anything then.)
I have a lot of water at home. = I have lots of water at home.
That's it.
Easy huh, isn't it?
:)
Bye for now!
