a complete change in career path...from education to finance

I really hope someone who is experienced in the field of Finance can help me out a bit by providing insights and advice. I have been teaching English in a commercial institue for 5 years and my undergraduate major was Journalism. I haven't really worked in this field since I graduated from CUHK and I actually worked as a full-time teacher so that I could give adequate financial support to my family. Recently, I discovered that I have some intense interest in banking and finance, party because of the financial crisis. It trigued me to learn more. The more I learn, the more I am eager to try this field. The problem is I do not have any related degree or working experience. All I have now is interest and a strong desire to invest. Luckily, I don't think I am too old for new challenges. My ultimate goal is to get into one of those ibanks... I wish to seek some advice and suggestions from people who are willing to help. Thanks so much!

When you say you want to work in banks, do you have any idea which department you want to work for??
1. if youwant to work in institutional banks and doing financial analysis for loan application, you have to take CFA exam (Chartered Financial Analyst).
2. if you want to work as a salesman of financial products in banks, you have to take CFP exam (Chartered Financial Planner).
3. if you just want any position in banks, you may consider to take CIB exam (Chartered Institute of Banks).
4. Relevant degree and working experience will determine your entry point at banks. It is not a matter to you as you are not too old.
5. As you have been teaching English for a long time, your English proficiency will be a definite advantage to you in taking the exam and climb up the ladder in banks.
6. I always encourage people to develop their career according to their interests. It is important as you will then have motivation to commit on it.
By the way, I am also a CUHK graduate. How are you, dear alumni?
