比較級
1]Helen wants a bigger car.點解要寫bigger而5寫big呢??同個a有關??

過去進行式
2] Sebastian (arrive) arrived at Susan's house a little before 9:00 PM, but she (be, not) was not there. She (study, at the library) was studying at the library for her final examination in French. 個Was not可寫成 did not 嗎??

3]when係咪跟短時間做嘅野?while係咪跟長時間做嘅野??跟while後面係過去進行式嗎???跟when係只過去式???

4]過去進行式係之前用比較長時間做個件野,,咁係咪一定要有時間列明先可以用?
e.g.last monday morning, at xx:xx o'clock,,for xxx day/year???
咁during呢?
e.g.He was travelling in Asia during his summer holiday.
我唔太清楚點運用,即係個句子要有時間列明先?5係就可以一律只過去式???

1) "bigger" is a comparative form of "big". in the sentence, probably Helen already has a car, but she wants a bigger one. if u use "big", then it is more like Helen doesn't have a car and she wants a big car.

2) we say "she was not there" but not "she did not there" like we say "she is there" but not "she does there". "do" has a meaning of doing while "is" has a meaning of being.

3) when and while have similar usage. both "past tense" and "past continuous tense" can be used after "when" and "while". we can replace the "while" with "when" in "I burnt my hand while I was lighting the barbecue". for simplicity, "when" is more commonly used and accepted.

4) the usage of past continuous tense is just like that of present continuous tense. it describes actions in progress in the past. it is not necessary to have time-specifying
phrases. we can simply say "i was writing my diary when Sally came." there only needs to be a consistence in past tense throughout the sentence.
