Is my turtle's tank too small?

I have a musk (about three inches) in a 20 gallon long tank. He seems to swim a lot, and is a good swimmer always chasng his feeder fish (unlike the musk I read about, being shy; mine isn't). Because of this fondness for swimmin, I put 9 inches of water a month ago; and he's still swimming a lot, which i know is a good thing. But, he's still going to grow about a .5 -1.0 inch mor - does he need a bigger tank (as an adult, he's most likely be 3.5 - 4.0 inches)? Or can i keep my 20 gallon long tank, and just add another inch of water.

Simply, I meant to say that I have a musk in a 20 gallon long tank with 9 inches of water; does he need a bigger home?

更新2:

And musk only get to be 3.5 to 4 inches long as adults.

I had this answered even before I clicked on it. Any time a person thinks that his/her turtle tank might be too small, it probably is. In your case, it might be a good time to start saving for a 55 gallon tank. That will be suitable even if your turtle approaches record length. You might get away with 40 gallons, though. The rule of thumb is 10 gallons per inch of shell.

the bigger the better
we have a mud in a 20 gal

i say you should get a new one because you will already have to get a new one anyways because they get bigger

I would try a bigger one, especially if the little guy likes to move around a lot, he'll be happier if he has more room. :)
