Yesterday I gave my girl a bath, she is about 7 months old, and whenever I tried to blow-out her legs/underside of legs, she would flinch and immediatly try licking herself "down there". I thought nothing of it, but today I found staining around her area that wasn't there before, is this a possible sign of her going into/in heat?
She is a bit swollen, too.
I am a handler and a groomer, I just wanted clarification as this is the first ***** I've owned and I wanted to make sure. I won't be breeding her for a while, and I do know I have a LOT to learn about the wonderful world of conformation shows :P
That is a good point, I try not to use so much down there, but it's also a possibility. She was tender with her legs before I shampooed them, and was licking herself when I came home.
No males around. I know not to let her out of the house without a leash and to stay away from shows until it's all over.
She's a sealyham terrier, meaning the hair on her belly, legs, and muzzle aren't really touched, it's her back that would be prickly and itchy, and when we first got her groomed it was - she would bite at it and scratch, but now it's the hard wiry coat she needs and she's fine.
The hair on her belly, area, etc. is soft, not wiry.
