I would wait until they are at least 4 or even 5. Although they could be bred from now it is too early in their life and a filly needs to mature herself before bred from. Make sure u handle them regularly and teach them some manners as Shetlands can easily get nippy and bolshy. If might be a good idea to do some in-hand showing with them to stop them getting bored. If u have a colt and are hoping to put him to other mares then he will need to have proven himself in the show ring to attract mare owners. U dont say what sex they are but if one is a filly and the other is a colt u should seperate them so they dont breed too early, the same goes if u have 2 colts as they will fight each other.

fillies can be put to a stallion as young as 2.but if they are immature at this age normally, this is not done until they are 4.so tht they foal for the 1t time at 5 when they are fully mature.

a stallion can cover a mare around 18 months.

Yes, I would do some showing, training to drive before you start breeding. That way you can answer the ever present question,"So, what has your stallion done? Show ribbons?" It also teaches manners and to listen to you first. The id will come later. They are usually sexually mature by 2, if not, then definitely 3.
The training and exercising will also muscle them up to make them more attractive. People expect more out of a stallion.

With colts I would say around 2, but with fillies i would say wait til about 3.

I agree with another person that you should get them out to showing shows. just do youngstock classes.

If you ever want a new bloodline i have a fantastic miniature shetland stallion and a breeding pair of pure bred fallabellas!

Good luck xx :-) xx

I would wait until they are about 4 but in the mean time I would show them and try to get some ribbons for them so they have a good reputation and will attract quality mares.

horses starts puberty at 10-12 months so you can breed them anytime after that. Their length of heat is 6 days and length of estrous cycle average to be 21 days. They are seasonally polyestrus. They can be breed in the winter.

Well you COULD breed them now I believe, but I would wait until they are like 4 or 5 before I did it. Also now is a great time to work on ground manners 'cause they are very helpful! backing up etc, even getting used to all sorts of different object are great to do in the meantime!

Do you realize how many mini's show up at sale barns? My sister see's them all the time. Don't contribute to the horse population...there are too many starving and unwanted as it is.

Just my opinion...thumbs down away all you want.
