Where should I get a new puppy?

Well, my fiances birthday is coming up, and he has explained to me how he wants another puppy.

We have a one year old Dachshund right now. Very spoiled!! She is spayed and everything already, and up to date on shots.

But he wants to get her a friend. She had one when we were living in his mothers house, but now we aren't, and we have her, and our cat. So we want a friend for her.

Were could we go to get a new pup.

We do want a puppy, not an adult, and we want another Dachshund, doesn't matter if it's mixed though.

Where could we go to find one. We checked the shelters a few times a while ago, and they had nothing.
All the rescues here had no puppies, only adults.

Any other ideas??

Most dogs have rescue organizations that help place a specific breed. Usually they have older dogs, but occasionally puppies do become available due to unexpected pregnancies. Please look for an organization in your area online. A qualified responsible breeder is also a good choice for a healthy well-balanced puppy. Call around and ask questions to see what your options are.

Specify breed, age, and location.

You shall be rewarded with bountiful amounts of homeless Dachshunds.

You can try the AKC Breed Rescue:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm#408

And the AKC breeder directory:

I'm sure you know that pet shops are bad, etc.

Good luck!

I was going to suggest shelter, but since you already checked, that's out of the question. Check every day. If you end up buying from a breeder, use a reputable breeder. And DO NOT buy a mix from a breeder.

please, Please, PLEASE - DO NOT, under ANY circumstances, get a puppy from a pet store. All will tell you they work with good, reputable breeders, but the sad truth is that their puppies come from puppy mills. Period. There is no such thing as a reputable breeder who would even consider selling their pups to a pet store... they want to meet (and approve of) the people who are going to be taking them. If you don't know what the problems are with puppy mills, google the phrase or look up some of the videos on them on YouTube.

Check out Petfinder.com.
I found my purebred Parson (Jack) Russell Terrier on there (he was an adult, but there are plenty of puppies on there too), and it was love at first click. We had to drive about 150 miles to the shelter that had him, but if you know it is THE dog, whats a few gallons of gas? However, we were prepared to walk away if he did not have the temperment we were looking for... luckily, he did. :)

Alternatively, I second the recommendation to do a search for a breed rescue in your state or surrounding states. Google will be a big help there.

And why not consider adopting an adult dog? I know puppies are fun (in fact, I currently get to play with a litter of pups everyday, and though I know I can't take one, I always leave with the desire.) But a young adult dog still has plenty of "play" and they sometimes come with bonuses like already being housebroken. It's just a thought.
