I am male, 41 & from India. I do not keep very short hair. My hair is quite thick. I shampoo my hair with a pretty good shampoo every 5/6 days. I apply non greasy hair oil once every 3 days or so.
You are lucky to be a male, ....becoz they can handle their hairs easily unlike women.
you can try some home remedies as they are best result oriented. I tried many products to soften my chemical treated hairs. but always ended up with harsh and rough hairs. The best thing to use for your hairs is to apply curd or egg or mixture of both to ur hairs. wash it after an hour and apply shampoo. you will get soft and silky hairs.
I was going to suggest a little vinegar in your shampoo and use a good conditioner afterwards, but mayo is also good too. Oil is good, but you need to wash your hair more often. And CURD and METHI sounds good too - whatever it is!
First do shampoo your hair atleast thrice a week, this helps remove the dirt from your hair regularly.
To make your hair softer apply COCONUT OIL , for about an hour before you shampoo your hair.
Another alternative would be to apply a paste of CURD & METHI powder for around half and hour or one hour before shampooing your hair. I bet you, this will make your hair softer, shinier and stronger. This also helps reduce hairfall.
i recomend using El'Vive shampoo and conditioner products.
it works a dream for me! but maybe becuz ur a male it'll work differently..but who knows...give it a try anyways...
good luck!

uhm.. try to use some conditioner after washing your shampoo and wait until 1 mins. after you remove that and after that put a shampoo again and wash it finish
