Hi,

For this question, we have to distribute the 3 and 4 over the respective factors by multiplying each term by either 3 or 4 to get:

9x - 3 = 12 + 12x

Now, subtract 9y from both sides of the equation to get:

-3 = 3x + 12

Now, subtract 12 from both sides of the equation to get:

-15 = 3x

Finally divide both sides by 3 to get y alone and find that:

x = -5 <==== FINAL ANSWER

I hope that helps you out! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

Multiply it out.

9x - 3 = 12 + 12x

Add like terms

-15 = 3x

x= - 5
2008-10-17 7:26 pm
3(3x-1) = 4(3)(x+1)
3x-1 = 4(x+1)
3x-1 = 4x+4
-5 = x

x = -5

distribute:
9x - 3 = 12 + 12x

subtract 9x from both sides, and subtract 12 from both sides

-15 = 3x
divide by 3
-5 = x

9x - 3 = 12 + 12x
- 15 = 3x
x = - 5
2008-10-13 11:29 pm
3(3x - 1) = 4(3 + 3x)
3*3x - 3*1 = 4*3 + 4*3x
9x - 3 = 12 + 12x
9x - 12x = 12 + 3
-3x = 15
x = 15/-3
x = -5

Expand each bracket.
so....
Left hand side-------(3x3x)=9x (3x-1)=-3
Right hand side------ (4x3)=12 (4x3x)=12x
this equals 9x-3=12+12x
add and subtract like terms and make x the subject like so....
9x-12x=12+3
-3x=15
-x=5 which means x=-5 :D

Hope you understand that:)

3(3x -1) = 4(3 + 3x)
9x - 3 = 12 + 12x
9x - 12x = 12 +3
-3x = 15
x = -5
2008-10-13 10:28 pm
3(3x-1)=4(3+3x)

9x-3=12+12x
9x-12x-3+3=12+3+12x-12x
-3x=15
x=-5
2008-10-13 10:26 pm

3(3x-1)=4(3+3x)
Expanding on both sides, we get

9x - 3 = 12 + 12x
3x = -3-12 =-15
x = -3
