a 10kg rock is hung at the end of a rope of length 3.0m. the breaking tension of the
rope is 200N. the rope is now pulled through an angle x and released. if the rope is not to break, what is the maximum value of x?

For the rock undergoing circular motion at the lowest point.

T - mg = mv2 / r

200 - 10(10) = 10v2 / 3

v2 = 30

Hence, by conservation of energy

P.E. lost = K.E. gained

mgr(1 - cosx) = 1/2 mv2

10(3)(1 - cosx) = 1/2 (30)

1 - cosx = 1/2

cosx = 1/2

x = 60*

So, maximum value of x is 60*.
