Subtract 9x + 2 from the sum of 3x - 6 and 5x - 1?

(3x-6)+(5x-1)=8x-7

(8x-7)-(9x+2)

Distribute the -

(8x-7)+(-9x-2)

-1x-9

the 1 is not necessary. If your still confused just ask again and say what your confused about.

[(3x - 6) + (5x - 1)] - (9x + 2)
= [3x - 6 + 5x - 1] - (9x + 2)
= [3x + 5x - 6 - 1] - (9x + 2)
= [8x - 7] - (9x + 2)
= 8x - 7 - 9x - 2
= 8x - 9x - 7 - 2
= -x - 9
= -(x + 9)

-x - 9

3x - 6 +
5x - 1 =
8x - 7

8x - 7-
9x +2=
-x - 9

3x - 6 + 5x - 1 = 8x - 7

8x - 7 - (9x + 2) = -x - 9
