It is used for:-
- Evacuation (there are no exits at ends of trains in former KCR trains (MLR or SP19XX)
(It is connected to emergency exits beside)
- Repairing work (to convence worker to repair track and roadwork
If there is no this type of road, tranpassing along the rail to repair is hard (as there are no room indeed in the centre of track; it also allow passenger to escape quickly.
In fact, TKL (Tseung Kwan O Line), WRL (West Rail Line) also have this design.
Some of these road may also connect to emergency platform (to wait for a connection train to main stations in emergency situation)
Mind you, this road is not for normal users, only for qualified person in specified times.
The reason why other lines don't have (like East Rail or urban lines of MTR ettc) as they are old designs. Like KTL, it is built at 70s, and there were no such design in that time, only exits in tunnel.
