First use your bed only for sleep or sex.
Second do not eat any high sugar foods or drink coffee three hours before sleep time.
Do not use the internet before sleep time.The internet stimulates your brain to stay awake.
Read a book, drink warm milk, talk to a friend about any concerns or problems, and do relaxation breathing.
Do not work out before bedtime.

Deep slow breathing to a count of ~ 5-6, hold it for 5, then slowly out for count of ~5. It works great. Just stay totally focused on your counting and breathing and how your body is becoming increasingly relaxed and sinking deeper into the mattress. Pretty soon, you wake up and can't recall falling asleep.
