Pheidippides passed a heard of goats and their shepherd. The shepherd gave Pheidippides a drink so that he could keep running.
Pheidippides ran through narrow valley. He could hear the sound of his feet, echoing around the valley’s rocky sides. He could also hear the gasp of his breathing. The wound in his side was still bleeding.
The sun was about to set, and so there was still some light, but Pheidippides couldn’t see properly. There were black spots in front of his eyes. He shook his head, clenched his teeth, and kept running.
