Can smoke detector detects steam?
Will the smoke detector works if i cooked under the smoke dector?

It is possible that steam can be detected by a smoke detector.
As most smoke detectors are actually base on the principle of ionization of air molecles. And it is actually a topic of physics---radioactivity.
The smoke detector ionizes the air which can conduct electricity and form a closed circuit. When there are some smoke pareticles / steam entering it, their abilities of being ionized are actually smaller than that of air molecules, thus break the "circuit made by ions". And it will alarm.
