No your answer would be this.
8y-2-3(y+4)
8y-2 -(3*y)(3*4)
8y-2-3y-12
8y-3y-2-12
5y-14
I hope this helps!!

8y - 2 - 3(y + 4)
= 8y - 2 - 3*y - 3*4
= 8y - 2 - 3y - 12
= 8y - 3y - 2 - 12
= 5y - 14
2008-09-28 4:45 pm
8y - 2 - 3(y + 4) = 0
8y - 2 - 3y - 12 = 0
5y = 14
y = 14/5

9y - 2 - 3(4) = 0
9y - 2 - 12 = 0
9y = 14
y = 14/9

Answer: I have to walk past this problem because I don't understand anything. I wanted to help yet I don't know what you're apt to. I hope you can restate everything and tell us what is really required. Don't judge yourself. God in fact doesn't judge you. So who are you to judge yourself. Please restate the requirement of the question and that'll be okay. I'll wait and see.

8y - 2 - 3(y + 4)
8y - 2 - 3y -12
5y - 14.

I'm not doing the rest of your homework.

8y − 2 − 3(y + 4)

Expand the brackets

= 8y − 2 − 3y − 12
= 5y − 14

You have to start with your bracket. We'll concentrate on that first.

-3(y+4).

-3y -12.

Reattach it.

8y-2-3y-12.

And then just group, and solve.

(8y-3y) + (-2-12)

5y+(-14)

5y-14

You just have to remember your order of operation: BEDMAS: Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition, Subtraction.
