Constant low blood pressure, should I be concerned?

Everytime I go to the dr. I always seem to have low blood pressure. The corpsman or nurse always looks a bit confused and I laugh it off. Last time I went I was even a bit uptight and my blood pressure was 108/54. I never really worried about it because though they would make a comment or look confused, the actual doctor never brought it up. Lately I have noticed that I get dizzy randomly when I either stand up or even have been standing. It is worse some days and everything goes dark for a couple of seconds but then it seems to be fine. I have never actually passed out or blacked out but it can be annoying.
My question is, should I be concerned since the doctors never are? I don't even really know what low blood pressure can do or if I should worry!

You are one of the "lucky" ones.........because studies show that people with low blood pressure live LONGER than the average person! Pretty cool!

Low blood pressure is nothing to be concerned about if it is "normal" for you.....meaning that you have had it for as long as you can remember. Now, if you have VERY suddenly developed a super low blood pressure, this could be an indication of a medical issue happening, but that doesn't seem to be the case with you.

The only thing that you DO have to watch for with low blood pressure is exactly what you described....the dizziness. The only thing that you can do for that is to do it V>E>R>Y S>L>O>W>L>Y!!!!!! If you are lying down, then slowly sit up....and remain sitting until the dizziness passes....then slowly stand up.....and let the dizziness pass before you move. The dizziness should only last 5-10 seconds before subsiding. The one thing that you don't want to do is to jump up quickly......cause then you risk passing out.

If your dizziness lasts more than 5-10 seconds, then it warrants mentioning to your doctor at your next appointment......just so that he is fully aware of all symptoms that you are experiencing.

Hope this helps!!!!!

No, don't worry, it's better to be low! (over being high I mean). 108/54 is not that bad, low is usually 100/50 and lower...

When you get up from lying down, (before you do) dangles your legs off the side of the bed for a few minutes to let the blood flow and get it moving again.

When you go from sit-to-standing, go slowly, take a few seconds to let the blood go and your body to compensate.

If it were really "low" they would put you on meds. What you can do though, is eat salt (I know, most people should not, but you are NOT hypertensive, rather you are hypotensive), and drink plenty of water.

I have the same problem and am much lower.. I actually take 2 meds for it it's that bad.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

You should read "The Blood Pressure Solution" (also available in electronic format, watch the video presentation here: http://www.fixbloodpressure.com ) It's a very comprehensive step-by-step book that walks you through the natural remedies of high blood pressure. It provides you with a lot of information on what foods to eat, how you can acquire and prepare these foods, how you can change your lifestyle for the better, how to eliminate the toxins from your body, how to reduce stress, how you can check your blood pressure level the correct way etc.

The book is amazing in that it not only lowers your blood pressure without the help of medications; it also aids you in having a life that is healthy, happier, and less stressful. This book chanced my life.

Low BP usually means below 90/60. If you suffer from faintness and actual fainting spells then your BP is too low. Dizziness is also a common symptom. Your symptoms seem to suggest that you are OK as you have never actually passed out or blacked out.

Your systolic BP at 108 is fine and that is the more important one. Your diastolic BP is below 60 but in view of your systolic BP being well above 90 that is unlikely to be a problem. If your systolic BP should drop to below 90 you might have a problem. If your diastolic BP drops any lower you could also have a problem. As long as your diastolic BP remains above 50 combined with a systolic BP of 100 or so you should be OK.

As the doctors don't seem to be concerned you must be OK.

Low blood pressure can be as dangerous as high in some instances if it goes too low, too often. It does cause dizziness which is certainly not a good sign.
I would look up low pressure on one of the web sites on medical care.

I have low blood pressure also. My doctor told me it is ok as long as I don't feel faint or dizzy. If so then it could be dangerous. They told me it is because I am freaking tiny. I weigh 98 and I am 5'3. (I have 3 kids and not on any sort of diet, it is in my genes) But I would get a new doctor maybe. Somebody that cares.

If it doesn't bother your doctor, it shouldn't bother you. I have a friend with low blood pressure, and she is healthy.
