CF card + card reader

I want to test whether a CF card + card reader can be used as an external
hard disk to record 機頂盒 program

Questions :-

1. Will the CF card be damaged if it cannot do the recording

2. A CF card can record movie through a digital camera, can it do the same
to reocrd the TV program

I Just want to know if it works disregarding how long it can record.
I know the greater in capacity , the longer time it can record.
