I'm a poor student sharing a house that fixed with a sky dish..
and that sky dish is only 30cm away from my head when i lie down on my bed... this is because it is on the other side of the wall..(i.e. just on top of my head =[ )
I wonder would such satellite dish damage my brain when the sky box is switch on? (just like cooking my brain in a microwave??)
is it better if the power of sky box is turned off every night before going to bed?
What is the safety range of distance away from sky dish?
Please help me!!

no problem at all. The dish is only receiving very small signals, on the order of microwatts or lower. And that is if you are in front of the dish. Behind it, there is nothing.This is millions of times smaller than you would get from a cell phone. It's even a lot less than you get from AM and FM signals that permeate all the area near cities.
And turning off the receiver does nothing, the (very tiny) signals are still there.

You should be safe from the signals, but if somebody orders a very long film or a pay-per-view event, the weight of the show may knock the dish over and it could fall on your head. Make sure your roof is very sturdy.

You cant be that poor if you have a sky box. You are in no danger, if anything it will be sheilding you from satellite signals. It makes no difference if the box is on or not. Sleep well, you will live to see another day.
