12xy-1 if expression is 12xy+4y/-4y

-(3x+1) if expression is (12xy+4y)/-4y

(12xy + 4y)/(-4y)
= 12xy/(-4y) + 4y/(-4y)
= -3x + (-1)
= -3x - 1

First, lets take a look at that numerator. I am assuming the numerator is 12xy + 4y. We can factor "4y" from it.

4y(3x+1)/-4y

We now have common factor in the numerator and denominator of 4y. After we remove this common factor we are left with:

-1(3x+1)

We use the "Distributive Property of Multiplication" to get the solution:

-3x-1

Is this 12xy+4y/-4y or is it (12xy+4y)/-4y?

If the first, the division is executed first to get 12xy-1.

If the second, it's -3x-1

It is an algebraic expression, as there is no = sign it is not an equation.

It could be simpified to 12xy -1
