$200,000 x 8.55%
= $200,000 x 8.55/100
= $1710000/100
= $17100

Are you working on your homework?

Any time you do percentages you move the decimal two places to the left and multiply the amount you want the percentage.

ie. 50% of 100 = .50 * 100 = 50

remember the % = 100% * part/whole
8.55% = 100% * part / $200000
cross multiply
8.55% * 200000 = 100% * part
divide by 100%
.0855 * 200000 = part
part = $17100

200,000 x 8.55%
200,000 x 8.55/100 (removing percent sign)
200,000 x 855/10000 (multiply the fraction by 100 to remove decimal point)
20 x 855 = 17100
so 17,100 is your montly allocation

the english word "of" is often translated into multiplication "x" or " * " in math.

the symbol % means "divided by 100"

hence,
8.55% of 200000 = (8.55/100) * 200000

the simplification is simple.

200 000 x 0.0855.

1 is 100%, 0.5 is 50% therefore 0.0855 is 8.55%.

"8.55% of" means "0.0855 ×".

8.55% of $200,000 = 0.0855 × 200,000
= $17,100
