英文文法:我想問下ALTHOUGH 後面可唔可以用BUT?

中文會講：「雖然．．．但是．．．」
許多人或許也知道，英文Although之後不可以用but，但卻知道為甚麼不可用
其實這是因為although與but（解做但是）同為連接詞，兩句英文句子，只可用一個連接詞將它們連在一起，因此，我們可以說：
You are clever, but you don't work hard.
或Although you are clever, you don't work hard.
但若你雖要將後面的句子強調，但卻不可以用多一個連接詞的話，我們不防用yet這個副詞
Although you are clever, you don't work hard yet.
但若句子多於兩句，則but although還是可以並用，以下在【征服英語】就曾討論過：

不 可 並 用 ； 但 日 前 《 南 華 早 報 》 卻 說 ： But although the media gave prominent coverage to Mr Leong's drive for a higher （ electoral ） turnout, they soon left him as he was shuttled from one polling station to another 。 難 道 從 前 的 非 正 宗 用 法 ， 現 在 已 經 成 為 正 宗 ？


英 文 從 來 沒 有 「 although 和 but 同 一 句 子

不 可 並 用 」 的 法 則 。 讀 者 須 留 意 的 ， 只 是 不 要 把 中 文 的 「 雖 然 如 此 ， 但 是 如 此 」 句 式 直 譯 做 Although...but... 句 式 。 例 如 「 他 雖 然 飢 腸 轆 轆 ， 但 不 肯 進 食 」 英 文 是 Although （ he was ） starving, he refused to eat 或 He was starving, but （ he ） refused to eat ， 切 勿 譯 作 Although he was starving, but he refused to eat 。
假 如 不 是 直 譯 這 「 雖 然 如 此 ， 但 是 如 此 」 句 式 ， 則 although 和 but 絕 對 可 以 並 用 。 But although / though 有 「 不 過 ， 雖 然 如 此 ， 卻 也 如 此 」 的 意 思 ， 例 如 ： He had been given 　　some tips for the examination, but although the tips were helpful, he failed to get a good grade （ 他 獲 得 考 試 內 容 提 示 ， 不 過 ， 那 些 提 示 雖 然 有 用 ， 他 還 是 考 不 到 好 成 績 ） 。 But although 的 but 回 應 前 文 ， although 則 帶 出 後 文 。 句 子 用 however 改 寫 也 可 以 ： He had been given some tips for the examination. However, although the tips... 。
《 南 華 早 報 》 那 一 句 是 說 ： 「 不 過 ， 梁 先 生 力 促 選 民 投 票 的 努 力 ， 傳 媒 雖 然 大 幅 報 道 ， 但 他 不 斷 往 來 各 投 票 站 ， 傳 媒 很 快 就 不 追

採 訪 。 」 起 句 的 but 表 示 了 轉 折 的 意 思 ， 但 由 於 沒 有 前 文 ， 無 法 看 到 意 思 上 的 轉 折 。

Although But

Although後面不可以用but

「although」後面不會用「but」，因為「although」有「雖然…，但是…」的意思，多用了則句子結構就重複了。 所以你可以說：「Although you are clever，you don't work hard。」或「You are clever， but you don't work hard。」

Although 之後不需用 but, 因為 although 翻釋為 [雖然 ..., 但是 ...].
