had been/ were?


2)this means that we.../this mean that we...

3)i think he was dead
is/was/ both grammatically correct?

1. Had been
Past tense should have a specific timing
Past perfect tense usually refers to something with a period in the past, not a moment

2. This means that we...
"This" is refering to a singular term
e.g. You will not substitute "apples" to "this", but to "these"

3. Both are correct
Depends on what you want to bring out

use to but no longer ... .... were.. is more recent .. "similar to two hours ago"

2/ this means .... "this usually corresponds to he/she/it"
that means ...etc


3/ both work ... i think he is dead " more like u look at a body in front of you NOW and say that "

i think he was dead "u see person on the road u have not seen A LONG TIME ... and u say i tihnk he was dead "
