Correct one: That day was my first time going to a beach.
Wrong one: That day was my first time went to a beach.
Did anyone know why we cannot write went instead of going?

Is that mean after "first time", I need to use gerund.
Or something else?

Hello. "Was" is the verb -- using past tense. "Going" is not the verb --- using gerund form. Tks.
