Show the steps if you can, thanks. :)

更新2:

I actually used this to figure something else out. X - (X+h)/X(X+h)/h I know I can cancel out the (X+h) but i need to keep those there.

更新3:

Actually, in fact, i cant even cancel those out. Lol.

Which is also 1/99. So u both are right.
But my question is something else. Is it (4/99)/4 or 4/(99/4)?
This would totally change the problem. : )

case i) (4/99)/4 = 4/396 = 1/99
case ii) 4/(99/4) = 16/99

Sorry for complicating... just sharing the possibilities. But if the question has no brackets, then its 1/99 only. He he. :)

Dividing a fraction is the same as multiplying its inverse
ex. 4/(1/2) =4/.5 =8/1(multiply by 2/2)=8 Which would be the same as 4*2 therefore

4/99/4
4*4/99
16/99

(4/99)*1/4
4 / 396 = 1/99

Multiplication and division are commutative--order doesn't matter.
4/99/4 = 4/4/99
= (4/4)/99
= 1/99

4/99/4 = 4/1*4/99 = 16/99.

So the only right answer to date is Scott's.

(4/99)/4
= (4/99)(1/4)
= 4/396
= (4 ÷ 4)/(396 ÷ 4)
= 1/99
2008-09-17 1:48 pm
4/99/4 = (4/99) ÷ 4 = (4/99) x (1/4) = 4/396 = 1/99

since division is commutative, you can rearrange the order of the question. so, 4/99/4 can be rewritten as 4/4/99. since 4/4 is 1, the answer is 1/99. I hope you understood this, Lex. Glad to be of help
